Tips and Tricks for Buying Used Machinery

So you’re attending your first used machinery auction, and after having seen a piece listed online, hope to strike a great deal. Whether you know all of the details about a specific piece of not, there are a few things to keep in mind prior to making an offer. After all, putting out a nice chunk of change, you want to ensure the piece functions as properly as you anticipate!

Here are a few details to keep in mind as you consider purchasing a used piece of machinery:
·         The manufacturer. Being familiar with the manufacturer of a specific piece will ensure that you make a purchase you’re happy with. Furthermore, if you know the manufacturer well, you’ll be able to easily purchase replacement parts and ensure efficient maintenance.
·         The age of the piece. Is this specific fork lift you’ve got your eye on a more recent model or does it have a few years behind it? Pay attention to the make and model of the piece, as well as the year it was crafted. Keep in mind that older pieces of equipment may no longer be supported by the manufacturer.
·         Wear and Tear. Purchasing a used piece of machinery through used machinery auctions, you’re ensured that each piece has been carefully inspected for proper functioning and safety. However, it is wise to see the piece up-front and in-person prior to making an offer.
·         Know the Value. Again, the benefit of purchasing through used machinery auctions, is that you can rest assured the starting rate is fair. However, it is a good idea to do some of your own research on proper valuation so that you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Keeping these simple tips in mind will ensure a more successful auction. Happy bidding!
